This HDR image is from a trip to Fort Macon in North Carolina earlier this year. The fort has so many interesting photo opportunities, it’s really difficult to leave the place. This corner, with the doorway leading to inner passages looked like a good shot as soon as I saw it. I really like the texture in the old brick walls and how age and weather have beautified them.
Continuing with my latest effort to present a monochrome version of my daily shots, I’ve included the black and white selection below. The color shot was processed with Nik HDR Efex Pro and Adobe Photoshop. The monochrome is the finished color version processed with Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.
Equipment used: Nikon D700 with 50mm f/1.8 Nikkor lens. f/6.7, ISO 800.

The age of the bricks and doorway really jumps out Mark. Well processed.
Just love the look of the bricks and how you have managed to capture their age in these shots. I think the color version works better here because of the subtle tones in the bricks which are more prominent than in the B&W.
Thanks, Mark. Reality is always nice isn’t it.
Those are absolutely epic textures Mark! I love brickwork in photography, no two bricks are ever the same and architectural studies like the one you’ve posted here almost seem organic as a result. Great work!
Appreciate your comment very much, Scott. I never get tired of subjects like this.
