This is the lighthouse at Cape Hatteras on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I’ve posted other HDR images of this beautiful structure before but not from this angle. Since this was a totally cloudless day, I had to rely on the lighthouse and surrounding area for my photography. The base of the lighthouse is the most striking element of the architecture. And, at this time of day with the warm glow of the evening sun, the deep shadows created beautiful contrasts in light and color.
Continuing with my monochrome variations this week, here it is in beautiful black & white.

I don’t know maybe I’m just in a colorful mood this week. I do prefer the color as the red between the brick is a really nice contrast to the surrounding green.
This is the season for color. And based on your “Back to the Niagara Apothecary & Topaz DeNoise” today, color seems to be the mood.
Thanks, Edith.
I’m with Edith on this one, Mark. The colors here, especially the red and green provide the contrast.
I assume this is the current site of the lighthouse and not the old one on the edge of the beach. Last time I was at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse it had only just been moved and was still surrounded by scrub which, together with the orange plastic fencing, prevented any worthwhile shots from being made.
Thanks for the comment, Mark. Yes, this is the current site. . .shot this earlier this year.
