I found these rusty pieces of old trolley track at the National Capital Trolley Museum in Colesville Maryland. Stuff like this is perfect for realistic High Dynamic Range(HDR) imaging.
Processing: I worked with five exposures from -2 to +2 ev shot at 1 ev intervals. Nik HDR Efex Pro was used to add selective Structuring, Tone Mapping and overall sharpening. Using the HDR Toning in Adobe Photoshop CS6, I brought out the shadow areas and increased the gamma for a brighter overall rendering. I used Curves to get just the right contrast, and finally did sharpening with overlay High Pass filter set to 8 pixels and then backed the fill level down to 50%.
Equipment used: Nikon D700 with 28-70 f/2.8 lens set to 70mm, f/16, ISO 400. Manfrotto 190XPROB with 486RC2 ball head.

Great textures and details Mark. Just watched the latest Grid podcast (Kelby TV) on HDR. Interesting discussion.
Thanks, Len. Haven’t had a chance to check out Kelby TV. Need to investigate, I guess.
Excellent mark. Wonderful details.
Thanks Edith.
Nice catch, Mark! I still have to visit the National Capital Trolley Museum. It is almost right on my doorstep but I have not yet found the time. Must add this to next year’s bucket list.
Thanks, Mark. I have relatives about 15 minutes away from the Trolley museum. Maybe we can meet up for a shoot on my next trip up there.
cool! rust + HDR = awesomeness
Great math, Jim. I totally agree!
