HDR – On the Docks

This is another revisit to Washington, North Carolina for my peaceful HDR stroll along the river. The whole area has been set up for tourist traffic and, since I don’t actually live there, I must be a tourist. There is a very relaxing atmosphere where people are sitting on the many benches facing the water or casually walking along, enjoying the view.

This shot was created using five images spaced from -2 to +2 ev. I had originally wanted to correct for the major wide angle lens distortion in the lower left but decided to proceed more cautiously so as not to eliminate too much of the foreground decking. That’s why the boards seem to slide down into the corner. So, I think I’ll just call it an artistic expression. Would you agree?

Processing: Multiple Control Points were used in Nik HDR Efex Pro to add structure to specific areas in the deck.  I used Adobe Photoshop for Image > Adjustments > Shadow/Highlights to balance the tones. I also made color adjustments using Hue/Saturation added a small amount of sharpening with High Pass Filter.

Equipment used: Nikon D700 with 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 lens set to f/22, ISO 200. Manfrotto 190XPROB with 486RC2 ball head.

I think that the inclusion of the decking adds a lot of interest to the scene Mark. I am a believer that photographers should shoot how they interpret a subject and I believe that not including it would have lessened the impact.
