Have you ever thought about Utopia? This boat owner must be on a second voyage, I guess. I never thought much about the word until I took a few Greek language classes in college and discovered that utopia literally means “No Place”. And all those years growing up I was living under the delusion that it meant some kind of paradise. So much for our cultural myths, eh!
This five exposure, HDR image is from one of my trips to Washington, North Carolina to work some ultra-wide angle shots with my new camera body. This was a perfect February day with a few clouds and very little wind.
Processing: I used Nik HDR Efex Pro for tone mapping with just a little additional color correction in Adobe Photoshop.
Equipment used: Nikon D700 with 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 lens set to f/22, ISO 200. Manfrotto 190XPROB with 486RC2 ball head.

Well composed and processed shot Mark. I don’t know if I would define utopia as a place as some do. I would rather think of it as a state of mind.
Hi Len. Well, since it means “no place”, I guess your assessment would work. Something like mindlessness or empty headed maybe. . .
Really nice one, Mark!
Interesting take on “utopia”. I too was under the impression that it meant a perfect place or state of being. We learn something everyday, as we should.
You got it, Jimi. I never want to stop learning. That’s one of my more obsessive traits. Thanks!
Lovely composition Mark and great job on the processing.
Thanks, Edith. Tried to not be too distorted with the WA lens.
Nice Mark! Never really thought about the literal definition but now it has all sorts of transcendental meanings popping up in my head.
I thought that was a kind of euphoric dentist office. Oh well.
Thanks for the comment, Curt.
Nice composition, Mark. As others have said, I have learnt something new today. Utopia is no place at all, no wonder it is so hard to achieve!
Thanks, Mark. Appreciate your visit and comment.
I really love this one, Mark, great capture and processing here!
Thanks, Scott. I always enjoy shooting by the water. Appreciate your visit and comment.
